About Jason Zeigler

Picture
- My mother began teaching me how to sign at 5 years old. Both of my parents are Deaf, however my mother verbalizes, so she was able to teach me how to communicate with my father by using sign language. My father didn't verbalize, so I needed to learn American Sign Language to be able to talk to him.

- I successfully completed basic training in the United States Army Reserve when I was 17 years old at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri, the summer between my junior and senior year of high school.

- I transitioned to active duty when I was 18 years old. My permanent duty stations were in Camp Stanley, South Korea, and later Fort Drum, New York.

- While in the Army, I became a noncommissioned officer. First as a corporal and later as a sergeant.

- I completed three years of college, going to school on nights, and on weekends, while I was on active duty. I was accepted into officer candidate school, but decided to finish out my enlistment. I stayed in the area to finish my final year of college at State University of New York at Oswego.

- In the year between undergraduate and law school, I worked as an interpreter.

- I then attended law school at Syracuse University. My son was born on Good Friday during my final year of law school.

- In 2005, I was hired by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs through the Presidential Management Fellowship program. I didn't stay too long, feeling the urge to start my own business as an attorney in private practice.

- I opened my office as a sole practitioner in 2006. Most of my cases were assigned by the court to represent indigent criminal defendants.
